The University of Alabama participates in twenty-two (22) varsity sports. The teams are members of Division-1 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Southeastern Conference. They are represented by a costumed elephant called Big Al. The athletics teams are collectively known as Crimson Tide. The university has one of the most successful football programs in the history of varsity sports. UA enrolled its first female students in 1893 and its first African American student, Autherine J. Lucy, in 1956. Autherine was expelled after three days “for her own safety”. It was not until 1992 that Autherine Lucy-Foster graduated from the university on the same day as her daughter Grazia Foster. Autherine graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education and her daughter, a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Corporate Finance. Alumni of the university include notable authors like Harper Lee (Pulitzer Prize winner of To Kill a Mockingbird) and Winston Groom (Forest Gump). The University of Alabama Scentsy warmer is a great gift or piece of school memorabilia for any student, alumni or fan. It features the school colors and logo. As part of the Scentsy College Warrmers Collection, a portion of the sales from this Scentsy warmer will go back to the school.
